Typing On My Smoke Break
something i like:
molds and stencils and stamps and kilns. they're all very simple objects that, by virtue of being shaped funny, have awesome powers. for example, take a boring block of plaster, lumpy and unfinished, with an oddly-shaped hollow space inside. pour in some liquid, shake it a little and ignore it for an hour. come back later and pull out a perfectly formed rubber bonsai tree. neat! or how about a kiln? nondescript pile of bricks, but if you start a fire at one end, smoke comes out the other and it gets to be 2,000 degrees inside. neat! hold a stencil in front of a wall and spray some paint in its general direction. take the stencil away and discover you've once again managed to draw (in under a minute) a 4' charicature of a political figure sodomizing an owl. neat!
simple objects can be pretty entertaining.
