strange looking into someone's face and trying to imagine living together, wondering how it's possible that not long ago you shared a house with this stranger for years. strange thinking that this normal and unexciting face once shared your pillow, and looked completely different, glowing with the light of a different world seen through different eyes. strange seeing it replaced with something ordinary, interchangeable with all the other faces you merely recognize but don't really know. strange realizing that there is nothing to replace that once-special beauty, and that an entire facet of your life has faded from awareness, conspicuous now only in its absence.
strangest to think that eventually light will shine through that stained glass again.
